Today's featured technology is the Zac Browser. The Zac Browser is a web browser designed specificially for individuals on the Autism Spectrum. It is free for all to use, either as a installed feature or just to run it from your computer.
When you run the Zac Browser, it pulls up a full scene across the screen of an ocean. From there, children can select Aquarium (fish), Television, Games (Ball), Music (Drum), or Stories (Bear). The aquarium serves as the homepage. Clicking on the fish at any time brings back the front page which looks like a virtual aquarium.
Under games, music, and stories, the Zac Browser opens to a screen full of links to various kid-friendly sites such as pbskids.org, NickJr, Disney, and more. The picture links go directly to the game, music page, or story that is shown. This can help eliminate your child surfing about on the internet trying to find a particular page.
The Zac Browser is a great feature for parents of children who love the computer but are worried about easy and safety. Not only is this page useful for children on the Autism Spectrum, but it would be great for most young children being introduced to the internet.
Play around at the Zac Browser and post some comments below on your own experience!
i like how you've designated this category as "technology tuesday"... i'm trying to do something similar in my blog as far as making new journal articles more readily accessible. i didn't get around to finishing my post til today, so here's the link as promised.
